End of the 60-days Covid Visa Extension

The 60-days COVID visa extension, which has lasted for over two years, is now over. It is not possible to obtain the so-called “COVID extension”, “COVID exemption”, or “COVID visa” anymore on August 25, 2022, and onwards.

In response to the COVID-19 crisis, the Thai government implemented the 60-day COVID visa extension in the middle of 2020. This extension was intended to assist foreigners residing in Thailand who could not return to their country due to pandemic-related restrictions. It was available for tourists as well as non-immigrant visa holders.

The deadline for applying for this extension has been extended several times, following the multiple renewals of the “State of Emergency” in Thailand. However, Thailand is currently in the process of declaring COVID-19 as an endemic disease. Therefore, the COVID visa extension ended with the acceptance of the last applications yesterday (August 24, 2022).

If you have been in Thailand on a COVID visa extension, you should now consider obtaining a different type of visa to stay in Thailand.
